“Memos
to my darling “

4.
no time for games,
my sweetness, precious;
no time for any more running away
and into the arms of you or from you;
no time for all
your hinting, denials,
and sudden revelations of love and need
only to tell me, again as so many times before,
that you need your space–
I must confess,
my love,
that I need mine.
16.
hope,
and nothing will deter me;
faith,
despite the loss of trust;
dreams,
forgetting pain and nightmares past;
courage,
despite the fear of risk and loss;
if not you, then
he, the other, after;
if not one, then another, some lover to come;
my love for you,
missing one, grows stronger, in the darkness;
as I search, my desire knows no bounds;
for you’ll be mine, and I hunt for you with confidence;
you’ll be mine,
I can feel your promise burning,
and as I search, I get closer to the source ...
17.
forgive, yet
never forget;
I’ll remember your ignorance, your crimes with wistful regret;
for they are
mixed with all the good you made me feel,
and all the lies that you did tell,
and the bright future I saw for us is tarnished with distrust;
you could have
been the star to shine alongside mine;
you could have been the startling sun to my brilliant moon;
instead you chose
to be one of so many,
to burn and fall, and close your eyes in cowardice,
unformed and not strong enough to face the glory,
you turned your back to me in fear of something more.
