Training
Background
I have been
singing all my life. My only formal training has been in school, church, and
recreational group choirs. As a soloist, I’ve performed in talent shows
and most recently, Mix 106.5’s
Karaoke South Bay Sing-Off at the Doubletree Hotel in San Jose (Fall 2003). It was cheesy, and there
was only an official 1st place winner, but I do believe I came
a close second.
Other than
this, I do a whole lot of singing in the car and the shower. :) I once
played piano but can no longer remember how to read notes. I also like to
play when singing – I’ll perfect a song then instinctively search for
harmonies and syncopation to play up on what’s obvious in favor of
something different and new.

My natural
voice tends toward sweet/young/soulful. I aspire to sing with the clarity
and versatility of Ella Fitzgerald. Agility and clarity of the voice
while maintaining a strong range, as well as strength of form, are
important to me. The music, and the performance, is more important than
the performer, always.
I also
definitely enjoy and am talented at singing modern songs and am
particularly good at hip-hop/soul (I can sing with a lot of attitude and
soul if the song warrants it and I feel it). I also like some pop/rock
sounds and styles and can easily use my voice for that raw earthy rock
sound.
